Banks and mainstream lenders

Banks will lend money to anyone who meets their criteria for a loan. There are many banks to choose from as well as the big names on the High Street. Remember that you can have a working relationship with more than one bank. For example, you might have a loan from one to cover capital purchases and do your day to day banking with another with whom you may also have an overdraft facility.

In fact choosing banks to work with can be daunting. Most will offer very similar services although their attitudes to lending could be quite different. Make sure you:• talk to more than one before choosing which one to work with;

• ask around for recommendations from other social entrepreneurs;

• don’t assume that the bank you use for your private finances will also be the best choice for your enterprise.
